About Thaxted Community Land Trust
Thaxted Community Land Trust Limited was formed in 2020 in response to needs identified in the Neighbourhood Plan. The Trust operates as a not-for-profit Organisation, retaining land and property through community ownership. Our aim is to work with our community to ensure that in an ever-challenging market, local people can continue to live and thrive in our very special town.
Thaxted Community Land Trust Limited chose to work with English Rural because of their background in providing quality, affordable, rural homes. We know how special Thaxted is to its people and we wanted to ensure we worked with a provider who fully understood this. We are really excited for our first project and we can't wait to hear your feedback!

About English Rural
English Rural is a specialist non-profit rural housing association, established in 1991. We only build and manage homes in village locations, principally across the south of England. All the homes we build are community-led and designed to benefit local people. We are also one of the leading national advocates on affordable rural housing issues, with HRH The Princess Royal as our Patron.
Generally speaking, we develop our homes on ‘rural exception sites’. This enables us to ensure they are affordable and secured for local people – forever. Our residents and the local community are at the heart of what we do.
Affordable doesn’t mean poor quality. Our homes are designed and built to high standards, usually using local design features and ensuring that their environmental impact is minimal. We build beautiful homes that villages can be proud of and our homes consistently win awards for design and construction.

What Is Proposed?
We are proposing to design, build and manage a small development in Bardfield Road of four affordable rented homes for local people. The scheme would comprise the following homes:
2x one bedroom maisonettes
2x two bedroom houses
Visit the 'Visuals' page to view sketch ideas of what the scheme might look like.
Proposed Location
Please refer to our FAQs to learn how this site was selected.
The proposed site is located on the North side of Bardfield Road adjacent to the disused Scout Hut. Access to the proposed homes would be directly from Bardfield Road. The development site is approximately 0.2 acres in size and is a relatively flat overgrown area of land. The existing highway footpath along the frontage provides good connectivity with Thaxted.
